Badia a Coltibuono
A former abbey with monumental cellars, a walled garden, a renowned cooking school and a restaurant serving estate produce.
The Vallombrosan monks who founded this abbey in 1051 may have been the first to plant Sangiovese in Tuscany — a claim few Chianti estates can match. The Stucchi Prinetti family has run it since 1846, and the grounds hide a genuine Etruscan dig site, Cetamura, still being excavated by Florida State University. Distinct from the restaurant of the same name next door: this is the winery and cellar tour, best paired with the cooking school Lorenza de' Medici founded here.
