Badia a Passignano
A fortress-like Vallombrosan abbey founded in 1049, ringed by cypresses, holding a Last Supper fresco by the Ghirlandaio brothers. Guided visits on limited days.
A working Vallombrosian abbey, not a museum — the monks came back in 1986, and the opening hours reflect that: a handful of guided slots a few days a week, always by appointment, never a stroll-in. The reason to plan around it is the Ghirlandaio Last Supper fresco in the refectory, painted in 1476, older than the more famous version he later did in Florence. Check the abbey's own hours before you drive out — the posted times are the first thing to go wrong.
