Our verdict
Vineyards here are documented back to 1150, and the castle's most famous resident, explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, was born on the property in 1485 — before he went on to discover New York Bay. The Cappellini family has run it since 1958, organic since 2014, on some of the highest, coolest vineyard ground in Chianti Classico. The history is as much the draw as the wine; go for both.
