Our verdict
Home of Flaccianello, and the reason serious Sangiovese drinkers detour to Panzano at all. Giovanni Manetti has run it since 1980, farming eighty hectares organically in the amphitheatre-shaped Conca d'Oro — the shape does real work, funnelling sun onto the vines from every side. Not a casual walk-in: tastings are by appointment and lean toward people who already know what they're drinking.
