A secluded, castle-dotted valley in the east, home to Castello di Brolio and the legendary L'Eroica vintage cycling ride on the white gravel roads.

Our verdict

The quietest of the seven villages, tucked into a valley with more castles per square kilometre than anywhere else in Chianti — Brolio, Meleto, Vertine and Tornano all sit within a few minutes' drive. L'Eroica's vintage-bike gravel roads start here every October, the one weekend the town's population effectively doubles.
