The lively northern gateway to Chianti Classico, built around the funnel-shaped Piazza Matteotti. Home to the historic Falorni butcher and the giant Enoteca Falorni, and host of the Expo del Chianti Classico each September.

Our verdict

The working gateway to Chianti Classico, built around a funnel-shaped piazza that still runs a proper Saturday market, not the tourist kind. Falorni's historic butcher and its enormous enoteca next door mean you can eat well without a reservation, which is rare in this region. The Expo del Chianti Classico takes over the piazza every September.
