Winery · Gaiole in Chianti
Riecine
A cult small estate above Gaiole, prized for pure, elegant Sangiovese.
Our verdict
Founded in 1971 by an Englishman, John Dunkley, on land bought from the neighbouring Badia a Coltibuono monastery — one of the first outsiders to bet on pure Sangiovese when most of Chianti was chasing Bordeaux blends. It has changed hands three times since, now under Lana Frank since 2011, but the site in one of Gaiole's highest pockets has not. A pilgrimage stop for anyone serious about Sangiovese history, not a casual detour.
