Our verdict
Percarlo put Gaiole's Monti hills on the map for serious Sangiovese collectors — a pure varietal wine running since 1983 that regularly scores in the mid-90s from critics who do not hand those out lightly. The Martini di Cigala family has run the estate since 1957, now three siblings, on a 30-hectare organic site at 270 metres. A name-recognition stop for anyone who already knows the wine, less essential if you do not.
